“I had thought I never again would write about retired diplomat Joseph Wilson’s CIA-employee wife…” writes Robert Novak in a commentary published today. “My role and the role of the Bush White House have been distorted,” Mr. Novak goes on to say.
Well, thats a shocker, don’t you agree? Truth distorted, accusations hurled, Democrats posturing, the mainstream media following like a dog on a leash… Its all very familiar to those of us who follow politics. At the same time, though, I believe that recent actions on the part of Dems go far beyond what we are used to seeing from this party. In my opinion, those who regularly blame such shameful behaviour on the approaching election don’t quite see the big picture here.
Traditionally, in times of war, Washington politicos put the safety of the nation first and their own political ambitions second. Which only makes sense; after all, if the nation does not survive, then personal ambition means very little.
But Democrats don’t really seem to care about national security. Instead, their focus is entirely bent upon regaining the reigns of power throughout Washington, and their “damn the torpedoes” approach is more like the scorched-earth policies of warfare that we remember from our high school history lessons than anything else.
Partisan politics have always been nasty, but since the 2002 mid-term elections, when the Democratic Party suffered historic losses, they seem to have become even more hostile, accusatory, angry, and petty, than ever before. This trend is so well-recognized and understood that it has even lead to the rise of a new political term amongst conservatives, the “angry left.”
This latest so-called “scandal,” now called “Leak-gate,” or some such thing, has been trumpeted by the left and the liberal media as a major blow to the President’s credibility. Really, though, the whole thing, as explained by Robert Novak in his column today, is just so incredibly thin and unsupported. All of the political posturing now taking place seems more the act of a very desperate group of people rather than the sophisticated campaigns of old that Democrats are well know for. If you’ll notice, liberals have made little mention of President Bush, rather, they have concentrated their totally unsupported accusations at Karl Rove, the President’s top political advisor.
Is this move strategic? Sure it is, but, as I mentioned, its so damned thin that if you were to turn it sideways it would dissappear. Truth be told, no matter what happens, this thing will disappear fairly quickly now that Mr. Novak has made clear the circumstances around the article. Even the docile, compliant dog that the liberal media has become for Democrats can only go so far in promoting the distortions of that shameless political party without revealing too much of their bias.
But will Democrats continue this “win-at-any-cost” approach, or will they ever come to their senses and put the health and well-being of their constituents first? Truly, for Dems, its been a “damn the torpedoes” approach for at least two years now. Here are just a few examples of the Dem’s scorched-earth politics in action:
[i]–Gray Davis signs a bill into law to give illegal aliens coming in to California the ability to obtain a driver’s license in an attempt to drum up additional votes.
–Congressman Dick Gephardt, once the House Majority Leader, calls the President “a miserable failure and, even worse, sets up a web site, “amiserablefailure.com” to further distort the fact and disparage the President.
–Democrats act unconstitutionally to block the Senate from approving candidates to federal benches around the country rather than allow men and women of faith take the bench.
–Democrats give comfort to enemies around the world by disparaging the President at every opportunity, seeking to undermine his credibility, thus endangering American lives all over the world.
I could go on, but I won’t… For now. Suffice it to say that Democrats have made it perfectly clear that, if they do not hold the reigns of power, then they must do whatever they can to get it back. It’s very simple, either they win or noone wins.

Bow your heads to your husbands - and that will be ornament enough for you. Keep your hands busy with spinning and stay at home - and you will be more pleasing than if you were adorned in gold. Dress yourselves in the silk of probity, the fine linen of holiness, and the purple of chastity. Decked out in this manner, you will have God Himself for your lover. by online casino
