Well, two interesting thoughts occurred to me last night as I watched elder statesman and current VP, Dick Cheney, wring Senator Edwards out like an old dish rag:
Edwards came out like an over-eager and smug teenager who thinks himself ready to take on his college professor in a debate, and wound up looking like the freshman that he really is in the world of national politics. Why did Kerry pick this guy? Oh yeah, that’s right, Edwards used his influence to force himself on Kerry. That explains it.
VP Cheney is what he is, an elder statesman and a man of honor who has served his country for a very long time. In many ways, he’s also a policy wonk, just as Clinton and Gore were while in office. Even though he got the site, Factcheck.ORG (not “.com”) wrong, he is, in his own way, his own Factcheck.org.
So, Edward’s attempt to put Cheney on trial and deliver a few well-placed zingers failed miserably last night. Instead, Edwards walked away looking quite the amatuer while VP Cheney may well have stalled the momentum built up last week with Kerry’s win over Bush in their first debate.
Only time will tell on that point. Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to the Second Bush/Kerry debate on Friday. Be there or be a four-sided object with perfect 90 degree angles.

I totally agree with your take on last nights debate - couldn’t have described their personnas better.
I have a few of my own observations that I wish I could bring to light. Some points I would like to see mentioned by the President in the next debate - I hope they will be listed and I hope “W” reads them. I think he would agree.
1. I keep hearing the other side say this administration has failed miserably in protecting our country against terrorism. I would like them to explain how it was that they were able to hold their DNC, and the Olympics and the RNC went without a hitch? I would not make a fool of myself to suggest that we are completely safe, but any intelligent person has to admit that the terrorists would have hit those three targets if George W. Bush had not taken action in this country as well as gotten the attention of leaders around the world. Of course, 9-11 played a big roll in waking up the world, but I don’t want to hear the accusations and insinuations that the Bush Administration has done nothing.

2. Rhetoric from the Kerry Camp and anti-Bush people along the lines of Iraq becoming another Vietnam. Their accusation is that we don’t have enough troops over there, but President Bush says he is relying on his Military Leaders to let him know if they need more men. The advocates of sending more men should check their history! When we went into Vietnam, the intent was to train the South Vietnamese military to defend itself against the Communists (Kerry’s buddies). As we thought there was a need for more troops and sent them, the will of the Vietnamese to build a force that could stand on it’s own withered. Why worry about it - they had all of us American, Austrailian, and South Korean soldiers doing it for them. Will we elect Kerry so he can make the same mistake in Iraq? I believe Geroge W. Bush is doing and will do what it takes to finish what needed to be done over there! I for one was getting sick and tired of seeing Saddam make an ass out of the UN and all the inspectors - all he had to do was come clean any time during the 12+ years when he instead chose to defy the UN Resolutions and give all the appearances that he had WMDs. I prefer “W”s stance on the subject. It brings to mind a scene from the movie “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”, when Eli Wallach was in the bath tub and a bad guy was getting ready to kill him, but he wanted to talk a lot first. “Tuco” (Wallach) had a gun in the tub under water and he shot the guy, then said “if you’re gonna shoot, shoot, don’t talk”!
On a related note - The French should just shut the F_ _ _ up! After we saved their a_ _ es twice - they don’t deserve a right to an opinion about anything in world politics!

3. What I heard from Kerry and Edwards in both debates was that, if elected they are going to make everything perfect for everybody. They are going to fix everything that anybody who has ever held that office has neglected to do or just plain couldn’t. We’ll be living in euphoria! I’ve never heard such a rosey picture painted for my minds eye! Hell, I thought I had dropped some LSD or something by the time those two finsihed!
Let’s face it, if you’re middle-class like me, you’re not gonna get a sudden raise or high paying job just because one party or the other is elected. They will say anything to get elected and we will still be the ones paying the majority of the taxes. Does anybody really think John Kerry is going to do anything that will cause that wife of his to have to pay a lot of taxes? He’ll be the first President in history (to my knowledge) to have his wife walk out and divorce him while he is in office. I thought that was going to be Bill, but I guess Hillary didn’t want to ruin her chances of getting in!
4. My final rant - When Kerry makes the accusation that we are failing miserably in Iraq - I wonder how the soldiers “hear” that? Let’s face it, we are deluding ourselves to expect to go into combat without loses. It’s a damn shame, but those guys are fighting Terrorism just like I went to fight Communism. Both are a threat to freedom and democracy around the world and somebody has got to stand up and fight for freedom - Hell the French won’t! Don’t even bother asking! I just wonder if Kerry wins the election and a soldier who has fought in Iraq or Afganistan goes and conspires with the Terrorists (to any degree) how can he (Kerry) punish him?
5. One last question of interest - when I was in the military, I had to have a “Secret” Security Clearance because I worked in close proximity to nuclear weapons here in the United States. Security Clearances are traditionally hard to get because you are thoroughly investigated by the FBI and other background checking agencies. I’d like to know how John Kerry was able to get a Security Clearance to have access to some of the most sensitive data that our government has after he was conspiring with the enemy during time of war? Somebody tell me please!
